A teenager from Charleville, who dropped dead on Saturday, leaves behind a family which has already had to cope with two tragedies last year. 16 year old James Fitzgerald died after he collapsed at a friend's house on Saturday afternoon. He was taken to Mallow General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
James was the youngest of four sons of parents Des and Geraldine Fitzgerald. In August 2011, the brother of James, Mike, who was 23, died tragically.
Two months later, his other brother Dessie, 30, was temporarily paralysed when he collided with another player while captaining the Charleville junior hurling team, who later went on to win the county championship. Des married his girlfriend last March after spending months in the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dún Laoghaire.
James was due to play an underage match with Charleville over the weekend and had worked a shift at the Four Winds pub the morning of his death. An autopsy will be carried out today although there are no suspicious circumstances involved. His funeral will take place on Thursday at 2pm.
