Cork has received a welcome jobs boost this morning, with the announcment that 70 jobs are to be created.
Thirty jobs will be created in Mallow as Entercoms, an aftermarket supply chain services, announced it is to locate its European headquarters in Cork. The new facility will create roles over a three year period in engineering, operations research and business intelligence.
It was also announced this morning that DFS Sofas are to create 40 jobs at a new store in City Gate Park in December.
Jobs at Entrecoms will also be created in programme management, supply chain management, demand planning and business analytics.
“The decision by Entercoms to choose Mallow as it European Headquarters is very significant," said Minister of State for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock.
"These jobs will provide a much needed boost to the local economy. This is the first time in many years that we have been able to attract high end jobs and a European headquarters to the town. I look forward to working with Entercoms in developing their future expansion strategy.”
"The high skilled jobs to be created at the Mallow headquarters signify the high level of graduates our third level institutions are producing. I am delighted to welcome Entercoms to Mallow and I will continue to work with and support them, in my role as Minister, as they work towards the initial creation of 30 jobs.”
The move was welcomed by the general manager of Entercoms, Gavin Murphy.
“Europe represents a strong growth opportunity for Entercoms and taping into the highly skilled labour pool Ireland has to offer will be a tremendous asset to help us gain market share,” said Mr Murphy.
“As the global economy gains momentum, we must be prepared to provide clients with our core intelligent services, regardless of where they’re doing business. Our new operation positions us to capitalize on opportunities with our existing client base while enabling us to launch and sustain our rapid expansion.
"Our partnership with the IDA made Mallow an easy decision for us and our plans with regard to research and development also merge nicely with the initiatives being driven by Minister Sherlock’s innovation brief”, said Mr Murphy.
