Soccer: Financial Assumptions

Cork’s retention of the All-Ireland Ladies Football title, their seventh in eight years, was acknowledged last week when classy and tenacious defender Geraldine O’Flynn was presented with the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the month award for September in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel.
Geraldine, a member of the Rockchapel club and a teacher based in Portlaoise, was named player of the match in the final win over Kerry, and was just as effective in the semi-final win over Monaghan.
It was a well deserved accolade and she was thrilled to be honoured saying: “It’s been a great year and it is nice to pick up awards but we have a fantastic squad and a brilliant backroom team.”
Geraldine had special words for coach Eamonn Ryan: “He makes every session so enjoyable and so different. He is the main reason why we have had such a fabulous run, and hopefully it is not over yet.”
It was a special occasion for Geraldine’s family and she was accompanied by her parents and brothers and sisters.
Ger Lane, vice-chairman of the Cork County Board, in congratulating Geraldine said the Cork team have been wonderful ambassadors for the county and that we all rejoice at their outstanding success in recent years.
Geraldine was deserving of the player of the match award in the final and her tally of seven All-Ireland medals is testimony to her contribution to a great team.
Tom Tobin, operations manager Rochestown Park Hotel and Kieran McGeary, managing director 96FM also offered their congratulations to Geraldine.
Ladies football officers Neilius Carrol and Sharon O’Keeffe were in attendance along with selectors Frank Holohan, James O’Callaghan, Bridget O’Brien and Justin McCarthy.
Geraldine now joins Killian Carroll, Kevin Murphy, John Grainger, Michael Shields, Gemma O’Connor, Noel O’Leary, Cathal Vaughan and Donogh Lucey in the race for the overall award which will be announced at the gala banquet on 25 January.
