North Mon Taekwon-Do members returned from the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) World Cup having recorded its most successful results ever at an international competition.

Thirty five competitors from the club travelled to Brighton, England to take part in the ITF fourth World Cup and they returned with an impressive number of medals, 54 in total including 20 Gold, 13 Silver and 21 Bronze medals. In total the event had 1,550 competitors from 46 countries and 163 clubs association taking part.

North Mon Taekwon-Do was established in 1991 by sixth degree Black Belt Pat Barry and since then over fifty members who began their Taekwon-Do life as beginner white belts have been promoted to Black Belt level. Many of these members have been selected on the Ireland Taekwon-Do team competing at European and World Championships winning medals in the process.

Team members ranged in age from 12 years right through to the over forties section and all members received great support from team coaches Pat Barry, Richard Forde, Sarah Barry, Jonathan Duggan, Daragh Clifford and Katie Cooke.

Pat Barry led by example at the World Cup winning a gold medal in individual sparring in the -78kg division, a Silver medal in special technique (over head kick) and a bronze medal in individual patterns. He then joined together with Irish Taekwon-Do Association members from Dungarvan, Ennis and Dublin to win Gold medals in both team sparring and team patterns.
