To celebrate Cork Craft Month, Mrs. Mon craft shop of Kinsale has something very special in store! The famous sparkling lace cape, made by budding Irish Fashion Designer Alice Halliday and worn by Florence Welch on tour in 2010, is now up for sale. It will be on display for two weeks in the window of Mrs. Mon, 41 Main Street, Kinsale.

The quirky shop, owned by Monika Nowakowska opened this Spring. It carries the slogan ‘Unique, handmade, created in Ireland’ and sells all Irish made crafts, including Alice’s unique, handmade fashion and accessories.
As seen on Vogue.com and featured in a worldwide media bliz, the cape has become somewhat of an iconic piece. It was first worn on stage by the style icon, Florence and the Machine front woman at the Splendor in the Grass Festival in Queensland Australia in July 2010. It then became her ‘spectacular’ costume for the song ‘Blinding’ during several performances in Los Angeles.

“I lent the cape to Florence’s Stylist Aldene Johnson shortly after I graduated from the University for Creative Arts, Epsom. I couldn’t believe it when She told me “Flo LOVES it” and that it was going in her tour wardrobe.” -said Alice
The hooded, glittering, floor-sweeping cape is made from a huge white vintage oval lace table cloth, but it was completely transformed. Meticulously covered by hand in thousands of sequins, vintage Swarovski crystals and glass beads. It was showcased on the catwalk in London at Graduate Fashion Week. Very much a labour of love, it took over 400 hours to complete, with the help of 10 college friends and Alice’s sister Libby.

Alice and the Cape have appeared on national TV on RTE’s Off The Rails and live on The Late Late Show, where Alice and Florence herself had a mini interview.
Alice will be in the shop from 3-5pm on Friday the 24th August, telling the story of the cape and offering free styling consultations.

The exhibition of the cape will be accompanied by a series of special offers in Mrs Mon.
