An exhibition on 100 years since the first meeting of the Dáil has opened for the first time outside of Dublin in Cork County Hall

The launch of the Dáil 100 exhibition is part of a programme of events designed to commemorate the first public sitting of Dáil Éireann in 1919.

The exhibition was jointly launched by County Mayor Cllr Christopher O’Sullivan and Deputy Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, who was involved in the political steering group which oversaw the Dáil 100 celebrations.

The arrival of the regional exhibition aims to educate the general public about the role and importance of the Irish parliament.

By bringing this exhibition to Cork, the Houses of the Oireachtas is following on from open days in Leinster House in January.

County Mayor Cllr O’Sullivan said: “The Dáil 100 exhibition is a great resource which the people of Cork, and tourists, will have on their doorstep for the next six weeks, and I encourage as many people as possible to see this exhibition in the flesh. Thousands have already attended the exhibition in the Houses of the Oireachtas, and we expect significant local interest.”

The exhibition is open to the public during June and July from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday at County Hall on the Carrigrohane Road.
