    The lack of communications from Cork City and County Councils on social media networks in the face of widespread flooding this morning has provoked a backlash among users.  Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O'Brien praised the work of local representatives in highlighting the floods and providing information but criticised the local authorities.

    The City Council has activated its Housing Welfare Response Team to ensure that any tenants of the Council or residents, in distress, are supported and offered assistance. The Cork City Flood Assessment Team have been monitoring weather and river levels throughout the day while agencies involved are Cork City Council, Cork County Council, Port of Cork, Met Eireann and the ESB.

    kieran2_1.jpg Electricity supplies in certain areas have been badly affected due to the electrical storm overnight. Western parts of the city were particularly badly affected. Pat Philpott of ESB confirmed that power in Blarney is only partly restored while electricity is not expected to return to Clonakilty until 2pm at least.

Services are working well together to deal with the difficult circumstances in worst affected areas across Cork and County including Douglas, Togher, Glanmire, Clonakilty, Bandon, Mallow and Rathcormac.

    Cork Floods Roads around Beal na mBlath and Newcestown area have experienced severe amounts of debris deposited and several sections of these roads have become impassable. The centre of Newcestown village resembled a mud deluge this morning as debris and other items were washed down into the village.

    kieran2_1.jpg There will be delays and disruption to the following Bus Éireann services: Expressway- Route 7, 8, 40A, 40 and 51 are all operating with delays. City Services affected include Route 3 which is not serving Blackpool, Route 5a which is not serving Blackpool, Route 7 which is operating via Tramore Lawn to Donnybrook outbound and inbound via Tramore Lawn, Route 10 is not serving Summerstown, Route 14 is operating as normal to junction of Clashduv Road and directly to CUH with a shuttle service from Southmall to Sarsfield Road.

    There has been severe flooding overnight in both the city and county overnight. Clonakilty and areas of Douglas, Glanmire and Ballyvolane are impassable.  Between 50 and 70mm of rain fell between 8pm last night and 3am this morning.
