Electricity supplies in certain areas have been badly affected due to the electrical storm overnight. Western parts of the city were particularly badly affected.

Pat Philpott of ESB confirmed that power in Blarney is only partly restored while electricity is not expected to return to Clonakilty until 2pm at least. Douglas electricity supplies are also currently down as they cannot be restored until flood water has been cleared for health and safety reasons. There is also a loss of supply in Riverstown (estimated restoration time is 12.30pm), Bishopstown (estimated restoration time is 2pm) and Ballincollig. At the moment, there is not complete restoration times for the Cork area available but the ESB are working to repair faults affecting premises and they will restore power as quickly as possible. To see the areas where electricity is affected go to www.esb.ie/esb-networks/powercheck/

Animals

The ISPCA has advised for owners of livestock to be vigilant and get their animals to higher ground. The ISPCA has had a lot of calls since the early hours regarding animals trapped in the floods. It was earlier reported that there are horses stranded on the Lee Rd but the ISPCA have said that they are determined to locate the owners of the horses so that they can be brought to saftey.
