Cork Chamber sympathise with businesses
Cork Chamber has sympathised with businesses across the Cork region which were affected by the serious flooding overnight. They also acknowledged the work of the emergency services and urged all of those charged with the responsibility for protecting the Cork region from localised flooding to double their efforts to restore the confidence of the business community.
"Cork Chamber would like to extend our sympathy to householders and businesses which have been affected. It is critical that affected premises are assessed by insurers as soon as possible and all efforts are focussed on helping those businesses resume trading as quickly as possible, " said John Mullins, Cork Chamber President.
"The Chamber is calling on the various stakeholders to urgently address the key issues that are required to restore public confidence, in particular the proposed Lee CFRAMS flood modelling study, with consideration of fluvial events of this nature incorporated. We need a strong commitment from Government to provide the necessary funding to protect Cork from all forms of flooding in the future."
"There have been several serious flooding events in Cork in recent years, none of which have been satisfactorily addressed. Given the significant increase in localised flooding events, it is essential that the causes are investigated without delay and the necessary investments are made, accompanied by the implementation of planned Warning Systems. We need more emphasis on communication and warning systems so that local businesses can take measures to protect against flood events," said John Mullins.
