City business representatives will meet councillors and officials today to try and find a way to bring shoppers back into the city centre.

According to Claire Nash of the City Business Association, retailers and other businesses in the city centre hope to see free parking introduced for certain periods of the day or with a voucher or token system.

They are also looking for parking meters to be installed in city centre areas to make it more convenient for customers to park on-street.

She is confident that the new Lord Mayor "has the city at heart."

"John Buttimer is taking on the CBA's issues of lack of revenue in the city," she explained.

The Lord Mayor and party whips from each of the political parties on Cork City Council will meet CBA representatives and the City Manager in a private meeting at City Hall today at 3pm.
