Traffic collision victim named

Gardaí have named the woman killed on the road between Drimoleague and Dunmanway (R586) following a serious traffic collision between a car and a truck yesterday.

Sister Mairead Murphy (80) from Kilkenny was declared dead at the scene of the accident at Clounties yesterday afternoon following the traffic collision. 

The accident occurred yesterday at around 3.30pm and emergency services were on the scene to assist in freeing a number of people who became trapped in the wreckage. 

Diversions were put in place around the accident and Gardaí advised motorists to approach the accident site with caution and to make alternative journey routes.

The male driver of the lorry was taken to Cork University Hospital while the passenger was uninjured.
