It was a Jamie Coughlan goal that separated Cork and Waterford in the end of the Quarter-Final Clash at Semple Stadium last Sunday. Although Cork went six points clear at one point in the first-half, Waterford clawed their way back and were three points ahead with 15 minutes remaining.

A tense final 10 minutes ensued with the Rebels eventually edging out the Déise on a scoreline of 1-19 to 0-19, their first win over Waterford since 2006. Galway are Corks next opponents and they meet in Croke Park on 12 August at 3.30pm. Waterford last crashed out of the championship in Thurles in 1999, their opponents that day were a young Cork side managed by Jimmy Barry Murphy who unexpectedly went on to win the All-Ireland that year, a good omen perhaps?
