The annual Tour de Munster 2012 will take place from Thursday 9 August until Sunday 12 August. With just over a week to go, the cyclists are busy getting ready for their big day.

The event will see 150 amateur cyclists  cycle over 600km around the six counties of Munster, in aid of beneficiary Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI Munster branches). Cycling legend Sean Kelly will also be joining the cyclists for his seventh year. Participants collect individual sponsorship and the tour is accompanied by volunteers who help to leverage the event with collections in the cities, towns and villages along the route. Everyone participating in the event covers their own costs so that all funds raised through the 2012 event will go directly to the six branches of Down Syndrome Ireland in Munster.

Last year's event raised a staggering €300,000 and they are hoping to raise even more this year. Help cheer on the cyclists as they pass through Cork at Stage 1 and Stage 4 of their journey. The cyclists will be leaving the Silversprings Hotel at 9.15am on Thursday 9th August and will be passing City Hall between 9.30-10am and are then due to pass the Conna Community Centre between 11.20-11.25am. Show your support for the cyclists as they head off on their tour of Munster and catch a glimpse of the excitement.

The group will return to Cork on 12 August via Glengarriff between 11-11.30am. They are then expected to whizz through Ballylickey at 12pm before passing Gougane Barra between 1-1.45pm. The cyclists will be passing through Inchigeela between 2.20-2.35pm, then through Macroom at 3.15pm and then through Lissards between 3.35-3.50pm. The group is then due to enter Cork city via St Patrick's Hill between 4.30-5pm on Sunday evening and there will be a reception at the Silversprings Hotel at 5.15pm to welcome the cyclist back and to congratulate them on their achievement. All help and support will be much appreciated.
