Hidden Highways lead to the Half Moon
If stripped down folk and country music is your thing, then Hidden Highways should be right up your street. The duo comprise of two excellent songwriters, Carol Anne McGowan and Tim V. Smyth and their female-male singing dynamic recalls Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings.
The pair began collaborating just over a year ago releasing ‘Fox Eyes On Georgia’ as a digital single with Out On A Limb Records. Earlier this year they recorded a whimsical cover of ‘My Rifle, My Pony and Me’ from the classic western ‘Rio Bravo’. They recently released their debut EP back in April.
They plan to release their debut alum in early 2013. Their haunting and ghostly sound means that the album promises much.
They are joined by Peter Delaney, a Limerick born songwriter who draws inspiration from traditional songs and old folk music as well as the lilting melancholy of vintage Hawaiian recordings. In 2007 Peter self-released his debut mini album ‘Duck Egg Blue’, and went on to join Oscar winners The Swell Season as support act.
Peter has since toured extensively throughout Ireland, England and Norway and has played alongside many popular folk musicians including A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Phosphorescent, Alasdair Roberts, Jozef van Wissem and Cian Nugent.
Hidden Highways and Peter Delaney play the Half Moon Theatre on Saturday 11 August at 8.30pm. Tickets are €10/8.
