A night of minimal beauty
Yawning Chasm headline a night of austere beauty in the Roundy this Friday.
A trio of understated but elegant artists come together to play a night in the Roundy this Friday. Yawning Chasm, North Side Drive and Rory Francis O'Brien are musically distinctive but all are linked by the minimalist beauty of their compositions.
Yawning Chasm, who headline, are a three piece from Galway who play experimental folk music. They comprise of songwriter and singer Aaron Coyne, who has operated under the name since the early 2000s, and was joined in 2011 by Declan Kelly who provided live keyboards and guitar and in 2012 by Jimmy Monaghan on drums.
They played Cork in March and currently releasing a series of four EPs during this summer. ‘Butterfly and Crab’ is the latest and is a beautiful release, reminiscent of Red House Painters.
North Side Drive play gorgeous, elegiac post classical music in the vein of the likes of Hauschka. Former Monarchs' vocalist/pianist/drummer Jonathan Pearson performs tracks from his recently released debut EP.
It’s lush ambient stuff featuring sparse piano and electronic soundscapes which combine perfectly.
G-Man presents: Rory Francis O'Brien rounds out the line up with his innovative solo guitar playing.
Yawning Chasm, North Side Drive and Rory Francis O'Brien play The Roundy on Friday 17 August at 9pm. Tickets are €6 and available to purchase at the door.
