Adopted Cork man and world-class pianist David Syme will play a solo gig in the Triskel this Friday. Syme has lived in Ireland since 2005 mixes a love of classical music, superb technique with an ability to play almost anything by ear.

He spends around half his year in Texas, from where he tours and half in the Beara Peninsula. From his Cork home, he plays informal concerts in his own front room, know as the ‘Living-Room Concerts’, held about 25 times a year. The series was featured on the RTÉ program ‘Nationwide’ in 2011.

Now he has begun to play gigs in Cork venues outside of his house more regularly. He had sold-out performances this year in February at Fota House and in July at Bantry House.

Maureen O’Hara is a frequent visitor to his house and annually celebrates her birthday by listening to him play.

His program will feature works of Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff, favourites such as ‘Clair De Lune’ and ‘Rhapsody In Blue’, as well as some Irish selections.

David Syme has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center in the US and in major venues in 17 European countries. An alumnus of Juilliard and Indiana University, he was a protégé of the legendary Jorge Bolet. He has recorded two dozen CDs with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, and the Czech National Symphony.

David Syme plays the Triskel on Friday 17 August at 8pm, tickets are €10. See www.triskelartscentre.ie for details.
