In June Noel O’Leary was the award winner with a multiplicity of honours to his name, but the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the month winner in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel for July, is a player at the beginning of his career.

18 year old Cathal Vaughan played a key role for his club Iveleary as they won the County Under 21 ‘B’ Championship for the very first time.

In that win over Kildorrery he scored 1-7 as the Muskerry club produced a fabulous display spearheaded by the De La Salle pupil who was also a member of this year’s Cork minor football team.

On being presented with the award Cathal thanked all who have helped him throughout his career with special mention of the club Under 21 selectors who played such an important part in their win.

Bob Ryan, Chairman of the Cork County Board, congratulated his fellow Mid-Cork man on his award and expressed confidence that Cathal has a very promising future ahead for both club and county and also wished Iveleary continued success in the coming months.

Tom Tobin operations manager Rochestown Park Hotel and Kieran McGeary Managing Director 96FM also offered their congratulations to Cathal.

Iveleary club were represented by several officials including John O’Callaghan and Bill Twomey while family and team mates were also present.

In fact Cathal maintained his excellent form as Iveleary defeated Dripsey comfortably to qualify for the Muskerry Junior Football final at the weekend.

Cork minor football coach Ephie Fitzgerald and selector Liam Hodnett attended along with County Board PRO Tracey Kennedy, Elaine Fitzgerald 96FM and from the C103 sports team John Tarrant and Paudie Palmer.

Cathal now joins Killian Carroll, Kevin Murphy, John Grainger, Michael Shields, Gemma O’Connor and Noel O’Leary in the race for the overall award which will be announced at the Gala Banquet on 25 January.
