Body recovered off West Cork coast
A man's body has been recovered from the water off West Cork this afternoon. A voluntary member of the Irish Coastguard raised the alarm just after 1.30pm today when they spotted an upturned fishing boat in the water near Gurranes, two miles north of Castletownbere.
A search of the water was then undertaken and the body was recovered at 2pm. Valentia Coastguard co-ordinated the search operation and the Castletownbere lifeboat also assisted. It's the second such tragedy in the West Cork area in a week. Last Tuesday morning the body of John O'Leary, a 58 year old father of three, was recovered after the dinghy he and his son Christopher were sailing in, capsized.
