Drug crime up in city centre

Cork City centre Garda stations saw a rise in reports of controlled drug offences between 2010 and 2011 with Barrack Street Station recording an increase of 55.8%, and Anglesea Street 33.3%.

Rural Carrigtwohill was up 45.5%.

However, most of the suburban stations recorded a decrease in controlled drug offences including Blackrock (-62.8%), Passage West (-50%)  and Ballincollig (-46.9).

Cork City Garda stations recorded 916 burglary and related offences recorded in 2011 compared to 914 in 2010. 

There was a decrease of -300% of burglary and related offences for Crosshaven station between 2010 and 2011, Carrigaline (-80.8%) and  Watercourse Road Station (-43.3%) However there was an increase in these incidents in Anglesea Street which was up 14.1%, Barrack Street up 24.3%, Mayfield up 29.4%, Carrigtwohill up 38.5% and Blackrock up 28.6%.

Some stations recorded an increase in public order and other social code offences between 2010 and 2011 with Bridewell Cork up 7.4.%, Crosshaven up 11.8% and Blarney up 8.9%. However Passage West recorded a -47.4% decrease along with Ballincollig (-24.6%)  and Gurranabraher (-15.3%).

Some Garda stations recorded a marked increase in overall total offences committed including Mayfield with an increase of 13.8% between 2010 and 2011, Rathduff Grenagh (10.7%)  and Blackrock (3.4%).  Stations that saw a marked decrease in total offences committed include  Crosshaven (-18.5%), Gurranabraher (-17.9%) and Carrigaline (-15.9%).

In relation to attempts or threats to murder, assault or harassment, Rathduff Grenagh recorded an increase of 77.8% between 2010 and 2011 as did Carrigtwohill (45.8%) and Mallow Road (25%). Bishopstown recorded a decrease of-51.7%  as did Blarney (-33.3%) and Gurranabraher (-32%).
