Fatality on Cork railway line
Services on the tracks between Mallow and Cork have been temporarily suspended after a man was struck by the 8am train from Mallow.
It is understood the incident occurred just by Bottlehill, Burnfort 10 minutes after the train left Mallow and emergency services are still at the scene.
Bus transfers have been arranged for those traveling between Mallow and Cork. A Garda investigation has now been launched to determine what exactly happened, in what was described as a "tragic accident."
Updates on the services are being provided by Irish Rail on Twitter, where customers including a representative from Cork's Clarion Hotel have tweeted thanks to the rail company's staff: "@clarioncork: Thank u to crew @IrishRail on board of 8am Mallow to Cork service for attention & care provided to passengers, hard morning for all".
