Man remains critical following North Cork crash
A man remains in a serious condition in Cork University Hospital following a road crash yesterday morning. The man, who has not yet been named but is in his seventies, was involved in a collision with a lorry at around 11am yesterday morning. He was cut from his vehicle by fire services and taken immediately to CUH by ambulance.
The incident occurred on the Watergrasshill to Rathcormac Road which is an area known locally as Dr Barry's Bridge. Another male, who was the driver of the truck, escaped from the crash with minor injuries.
Diver
Meanwhile the search for a missing diver is expected to continue today after efforts to find him yesterday failed.
The man, a German native in his fifties, was one of three people diving off the coast of Baltimore at Cape Clear who were exploring the SS Minnehaha, a first World War ocean liner which sunk in 1917. He was last seen diving from the boat Holly Jo but he failed to resurface with his two companions.
The LÉ Ciara boat as well as a lifeboat crew from Baltimore spent the day searching for the missing man yesterday and they were also joined by a Coast Guard helicopter yesterday morning although the helicopter returned to land yesterday afternoon.
The Valentia Island Coast Guard is heading the search operation and at the time of going to print yesterday a representative said the search effort would be reviewed late last evening to decide the course of the operation for today.
