Gardaí seeking witnesses to fatal Wilton collision

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a road traffic accident that claimed the life of a young woman in Wilton on Monday evening.

25 year old Amanda Carroll from Pearse Road in Ballyphehane was fatally injured when her moped was in collision with a car on Sarsfield Road near the driving test centre in Wilton at about 11.30pm.

Ms Carroll was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, but was pronounced dead soon after arrival. She had been on her way to work at Abtran in Bishopstown when she collided with the car.

The driver of the car was a woman in her late teens. She was uninjured but was treated for shock. There was another women present in the car who was also uninjured.

Gardaí closed the road for a number of hours on Monday to allow a forensic crash investigator to examine the scene.

Gardaí also looked at CCTV footage from a Bus Éireann bus which had stopped near where the collision occurred.
