Seventh heaven for Cork ladies
The Cork ladies football team recorded their seventh All-Ireland title in eight years yesterday in Croke Park over Kerry.
The ladies beat their neighbours on a scoreline of 16 points to seven. Just under 17,000 spectators saw the Rebelettes collect the Brendan Martin Cup, a team that has only lost one championship match since 2005.
Eleven of the starting 15 yesterday in Croke Park have now collected seven All-Ireland medals.
Meanwhile, the county titles in the intermediate and senior grades were also decided yesterday with Sarsfields and Ballinhassig taking the spoils.
The two finals took place in Pairc Uí Chaoimh yesterday with Ballinhassig defeating Bandon in the intermediate final on a scoreline of 1-19 to 1-15, bringing them back to the senior grade.
The senior title went to Sarsfields after a nail-biting finish over Bishopstown. While first-time finalists Bishopstown were up by two points at half-time, a Sars goal ensured the title went back to Riverstown for the third time in five years. Despite a late goal by the Bishopstown the scoreline ended up Sarsfield 1-15 Bishopstown 1-13.
