Stapleton House group in court this morning
The group which has occupied Stapleton House on Oliver Plunkett Street is to appear in court in Cork this morning, having been served a summons to appear.
The group’s Facebook page read last night:
“The centre has been served a court summons for tomorrow (Tuesday 24 January) at 10.30 in the courthouse on Washington Street. We are looking for supporters in the court. Any body available who can make it, please do.”
The group took over Stapleton House during Christmas, claiming that the key to the building was delivered to them while they were located at the Occupy Cork camp on South Mall.
The group’s spokesperson, Liam Mullaney, has told the Cork Independent that the group wants its day in court.
He said the group was not trespassing but are tenants paying a “peppercorn, nominal rent” to a limited company.
On Thursday 5 January, the group claimed that a representative of David Browne and solicitor company, McNulty and Boylan, called to the building with envelopes addressed to Occupy Cork, as a group and to individual members.
“The letters were not accepted as they were addressed wrongly and the group and individuals are not of this address, as on the envelope,” they were told.
“We are not trespassing. We are tenants at a peppercorn rent and we have no plans to occupy any of the other properties in Cork,” Mr Mullaney said.
