Killian Dunford – Business & Cinema Manager, Movie Junction

1. Name of your business?

Movie Junction

2. Location?

Fota Retail Park, Carrigtwohill, Cork

3. Client base?

Movie Junction Drive in Cinema opened in November 2010 and has been attracting movie fans locally and worldwide. It is a very popular evening entertainment facility for fun night out for families, couples of all ages, friends and tourists alike.

4. What does your business offer?

For people who want a new, fun and exiting entertainment option, Movie Junction is a modern and innovative experience delivering blockbuster movies without the restrictions and costs associated with cinema. Car entry ticket costs €16 per car regardless of occupancy.

5. Your Unique Selling Point?

Movie Junction is the first evening entertainment of its kind not just in Ireland but globally. There are numerous factors which differentiate Movie Junction including the screen size, bay size, canopy covers protecting cars from rain and wind, silent in car heaters, hot food delivery service from your car and online booking.

6. Why did you get into this area?

I have always loved movies and been fascinated by the cinema industry. As a business person, it is always a challenge to be faced with the business environment and sometimes it is important to simply reinvent yourself and bringing a simple idea to life.

7. How do you balance running a business and your life?

Business is always busy and go go go but once I get home, I simply relax and take it easy.

8. What do you do to unwind?

I love reading a good cinema review or a magazine. I also love to listen to online shows that review movies ahead of time.

9. What do you think is special about doing business in Cork?

I think it is the best place ever for the drive in cinema. Cork people are open minded and love to try new things. They love to have fun and go out, so for Movie Junction this is ideal.

10. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Firstly, 2012/2013 are very likely to bring a further growth to our Movie Junction with a second screen planned in Cork and a new cinema in Dublin all going well. In five years time, I wish every single Corkonian would have been to the Drive in Cinema at least once.
