Cork children have been urged to stay safe on the farm this summer as a Farm and Countryside Safety educational initiative was launched by Agri Aware in association with FBD, the IFA and ESB Networks to push this message through over the coming summer months.
This project will run from May to December and hopes to increase awareness of the potential dangers on the farm and to reduce the number of farm accidents. A Farm and Countryside Safety pack has already been sent to primary schools nationwide and it includes a safety awareness poster and a farm safety trail that can be completed in either family farms or online at www.thefamilyfarm.ie. and there are prizes on offer for completed trails. The pack also includes details of Agri Aware's safety calendar competition which challenges students to draw or paint a pictures that depicts farm safety. The 12 winning entries will then appear in the calendar for 2013 which will be distributed to primary schools across the country at the end of this year.
Bernard Donohue, Chairmen of Agri Aware stressed the importance of reminding children of the potential hazards and dangers on farms. See www.thefamilyfarm.ie for more information.
