Weddings

Cork couples are featuring prominently in the current RTE series of 'Franc's DIY Brides' which sees the Glanworth-based wedding planner help couples organise their wedding on a budget of €10,000. This latest series shows him mentoring couples who can't afford a wedding planner but are willing to learn from the master himself and still be able to achieve the 'Franc Effect' by rolling up their sleeves and preparing to put in the work.

Peter Kelly aka 'Franc' has come up with a host of ingenious ideas to help brides on a budget feel that they aren't budget brides. Out went the wedding planner and in came the mentor as Franc teaches the couple many 'tricks of the trade' and dips into his box of wedding tricks to show them how, by using their imagination and creativity they will be able to make the most of their money to create their own couture wedding.

Biker blitz

Last Sunday's episode featured Courtmacsherry couple, Orla Cronin and Jerry 'Fuzzi' Coleman whose enthusiasm for bikes led them to holding the wedding in Mondello Park. The biker themed wedding was a new challenge for Franc as he had to decorate three venues and feed 200 guests which saw the budget truly stretched. Orla and Jerry were the first couple to marry in Mondello Park and they held their humanist ceremony in the car museum, the drinks reception in the bar and the food arena for dining. Franc added some nice touches to their wedding including chequered bunting, mechanical centre pieces and racing clad girls led guests to their seats. The wedding ended on a high as the couple raced around the racetrack for a lap of honour and then served the cake on a tyre.

Nautical nuptials

Another Cork couple features in this week's episode this coming Sunday night. Katrina Griffin and Joe Moore are asking for Franc's help in putting together their nautical themed wedding in Youghal. Franc will be showing the couple to think outside the box and to use all the facilities and props available within the town in order to have a fun but cost effective wedding. Katrina and Joe will enlist the help of family, friends and the local tidy towns group to help them with this very special project. Jam jars, boats, ropes and goldfish will form part of their unique decor for their dream wedding.

Franc's DIY Brides is on RTE 1, Sunday @ 8.30pm
