Kilmurry GAA Club is appealing to clubs and club members and members of the public to support a Golf Classic at Macroom Golf Club on 19 and 20 July. On 21 April 2011 JJ Long, a lifelong member of Kilmurry GAA club and current chairman of Muskerry GAA Board, suffered severe and permanent injuries in a farm accident.

He is currently in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoighaire, Dublin, having been in hospital since his accident. JJ hopes to return home soon but require many medical aids, a new vehicle and his family home will have to be modified, extended and adapted to meet his daily needs as a result of his injuries. The 'JJ Long Injury Fund' has been set up to help with the considerable expenses required for JJ's needs.

Father of four JJ played football with Kilmurry and hurling with Cloughduv. In 1964 he began work in GAA administration and has held various positions and went on to become chairman in 1977, a position he held for 21 years. During JJ's tenure he guided Kilmurry club to many successes and he was appointed Vice Chairman of the Muskerry GAA Board after he left his position as Chairman of Kilmurry GAA in 1999.  In 2010 JJ was appointed as Chairman of Muskerry GAA Board.

As well as the golf classic contributions are also welcomed to the fund and a direct lodgement can be made to an account in bank of Ireland, Wilton, account number 96144788, Sort Code 90-28-05. Details of the fund and golf classic are available on www.cillmhuiregaa.com
