In a few short weeks the CIT Powerlifting club will be sending three of its top lifters to represent both CIT and Ireland at the WDFPF (World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation) World Single Lifts Championships. They are being held in Autun, France from the 22-25 June. This will be the first time that CIT lifters will competing at this level against the best powerlifters in the world.

The club has already experienced its first international success in early May of this year when Tomas Cuddihy travelled to Olivetto, Italy to represent Ireland in the WDFPF European Championships. Tomas put in an amazing performance to become the new European Champion in the 125kg Masters 1 Division and in the process set a new Irish record with a total of 600kgs lifted.

In the World Single Lifts in June lifters will compete in each lift individually, squat, bench press and deadlift over the course of three days. The CIT team will consist of Dan Fleury, Barry Pigott and Tomas Cuddihy. Each lifter had to qualify in the IDFPA (Irish Drug Free Powerlifting Association) National Single Lifts Championships which were held in Gorey, Co Wexford last February to earn their place on the Irish team.

Dan Fleury will be competing in the Bench Press in the 110kg senior division after a very solid outing in Gorey last February with a lift of 145kgs. Barry Piggott, the current national champion in the Squat and Bench Press, will be competing in the 82.5kg Junior category in all three lifts and will aim to add to a standout debut year. Tomas Cuddihy will also be competing in all three lifts in the 125kgs Masters 1 Division hoping to carry on his good form displayed in Italy. The lifters will also be accompanied by their coach Peter Lucey.
