Cork pipped to the post

A survey based on the responses of over 2,000 Irish holiday makers has revealed that Galway is our favourite county to visit. However, Cork came in at a respectable third place, maintaining the same position as last year.

Only one per cent of those surveyed by MyHome.ie said that Cork was the least favourite county to holiday in with Dublin topping that list, at 8.5 per cent.

The survey also showed a strong correlation between peoples' favourite counties and the counties they intend to holiday in this year with Galway again topping the poll while Cork dropped from second to third place with 11 per cent.

"It looks as if all roads are leading West this year. Galway is a beautiful county but it also knows how to market itself and events like the Volvo Ocean Race have really helped raised its profile while Race Week and Arts Festival keep it up there, " said Angela Keegan, Managing Director of Myhome.ie.

"While old reliables like such as Cork, Wexford and the western counties will always perform well, it's still surprising that people seem reluctant to go off the beaten track a little and visit counties that are less visited."
