Adopt a road

Cork Chamber has welcomed Cork County Council’s recent 'Adopt a Road' scheme and the opportunities the scheme presents to business. Under the scheme local businesses and voluntary community groups may apply to adopt a designated stretch of road by agreeing a litter maintenance programme on it with the Council.

In recent months Cork Chamber has led the development of the proposal and worked in partnership with the Cork Environmental Forum, Regional Chambers of Commerce, Tidy Towns and other interested stakeholders to bring the scheme to the Council for approval.

Commenting Cork Chamber Chief Executive Conor Healy said “We look forward to the roll out of the 'Adopt a road' scheme in County Cork. The Scheme is an example of businesses, the voluntary sector and the local authority working together to benefit the community and it builds on the experience of informal schemes currently in operation. The scheme will reduce litter while promoting local businesses or community interests and offers businesses an opportunity to highlight their commitment to a clean and attractive local environment.”
