Woman knocked down by Garda patrol car
Gardaí on patrol in the city centre.
Billy macGill
A woman in her early twenties was knocked down by a Garda patrol van in the early hours of this morning at Lavitt's Quay. Diversions were put in place between Emmett Place and Half Moon Street following the accident but the road has since been reopened.
The woman, who is from Youghal, was taken to Cork University Hospital with leg injuries and a fractured skull but her injuries are not said to be life threatening. The Garda van was responding to a public order incident in Mahon when it collided with the woman. The Garda Ombudsman's Office has been asked to lead the investigations in the case.
