Spanish wine brings some sunshine

Spanish wine brand Terras Gauda has recently launched a range of wines in Ireland, and the range includes a bottle to suit every palate. Our testers were impressed in particular with the O Rosal 2010, the winery’s flagship wine (RRP around €24).

Terras Gauda O Rosal 10 is estate grown in the O Rosal Valley, located on the Galician riverbanks of the Miño River, and the wine’s personality comes from a blend of the legendary Albariño, Loureira and Caiño Blanco.

First impression is good in a well presented bottle with distinctive and attractive labeling, although you will have to brush up on your Spanish to understand its origin and contents.

Upon opening, you are hit with a lovely citrus burst, again you are reminded of the sunshine. This is a nice tart wine, with a mix of grapes, yet the producers have seemed to get the acidic balance spot on, and you can definitely tell the hint of sweet apple and pear

that is lingering in the background helps achieve this. I think this is a white wine that would go equally well with a pork or fish dish due to these qualities.

The Terras Gauda winery originates from the Galicia region of Spain. It is a reasonably young company, in winery terms being founded in 1989. It currently produces about 1.3 million bottles of wine per year, both for the domestic and export market.

Terras Gauda wines are distributed in Ireland by Cork-based Classic Drinks
