Film fest takes a hike on Leeside this week!

A mountain film festival is set to scale the dizzy heights in Cork this week, with tales including a 97 year old distance runner and a 2,000 kilometre mother-and-daughter trip.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival includes films featuring expeditions from the Nepal to the Australian outback and beyond at The Everyman on 15 and 16 May.

Celebrating ten years of touring around Ireland and the UK, the Banff Mountain Film Festival will show six films featuring intrepid explorers in the farthest reaches of the planet, from the breath-taking mountains of Nepal to the desolate outback of Australia and beyond.

Highlights include ‘This Mountain’s Life’, the story of a mother and daughter’s 2,300 kilometre ski traverse from Vancouver to Alaska; ‘RJ Ripper’, in which mountain biker Rajesh (RJ) Magar explores his homeland of Nepal; and ‘For the Love of Mary’, the remarkable story of 97 year old George Etzweiler, who took up distance running aged 69 and runs the 7.6 mile annual run up Mount Washington every year.

Films are selected from hundreds entered into the Banff Mountain Film Festival, which takes place every November in Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

Featuring over 100 films across 60 venues, the UK and Ireland Tour started in Edinburgh on Saturday 19 January and finishes in Guildford on Friday 24 May.
