Plans to tackle quadbike use
Gardaí on the northside of Cork city are preparing to swoop in on youngsters riding quadbikes in public places.
The news came to light at a community forum for The Glen, Mayfield and Ballyvolane on Monday when residents complained about the dangers of them and how popular they have become in recent months.
Gardaí present at the meeting told residents: “There is an issue with quadbikes, there is no two ways about it. Our difficulty is that the areas where they are being used have three or four different routes which they can escape and get away from us. When they are on quadbikes they can get away from us quite quickly.”
Locals were also told by gardaí: “We are trying to set up something for the summer to see if we can reduce the issues associated with quadbikes. We will do our utmost to try to catch hold of these young fellas because they are committing offences when they are on quadbikes in public places. If you do spot people on quadbikes to ring us straight away. We are aware that they are danger to people walking around housing estates.”
