Fermoy going a little bit country
by Kate Delaney
Grab your stetson as country music stars are set to hit Fermoy in August to raise funds for the local GAA club.
Fermoy Goes Country will feature a host of Irish country music stars including Jimmy Buckley, Louise Morrissey, Gary Gamble, Gerry Guthrie, Paddy O’Brien and Brendan Shine. There will be a dance floor installed in the grounds and food and beverage stands on site on the day.
Brendan Keane, Chair of Fermoy GAA said: “Country music is hugely popular in Ireland and the national following is growing year on year, so we are expecting a good turnout. The benefits to the town will be substantial and the timing is perfect as it coincides with events scheduled by the Fermoy Festival Forum.
“There will be a great atmosphere and our hope is to make this event an annual feature. We have already received support from local businesses including Zeus Packaging and Martin Nelligan, Funeral Directors, for which we are most grateful.”
All profits from the event will be used for future developments in the club.
Fermoy Goes Country takes place on 25 August from 1-7pm at Fitzgerald Park, Fermoy. Tickets are €20 available from Barnes Jewellers, Marela’s Hair Salon, Centra, Supervalu and Shinnick’s Spar, and from tickets.ie.
