Greene and co hit the right notes yet again
The gift that just keeps on giving! For the third year in a row Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra brought huge crowds to the marquee, with thousands descending on the tent for another trip down nostaligia lane. Although the summer sun, which made an altogether too brief of an appearance on Thursday, had taken its departure by Friday's gig, the warm vibes and cracking atmosphere set the tone for an amazing evening from the very start.
With a near sell-out crowd, Greene and the Orchestra took to the stage with great aplomb, belting out nineties hit after hit, and were joined at interchanging stages by the fierce Gemma Sugrue whose sensational voice never faltered, meandering through high notes with crowd-pleasers such as Everybody's Free and Rhythm is a Dancer. If you've never heard Sugrue live, make it your business to seek her out, she is truely a special talent that needs to be seen live to be appreciated. Not only that but the crowd were also treated to a few numbers by none other then Maverick Sabre, with The Chemical Brothers hit, Hey Boy, Hey Girl, particularly going down a storm with the home crowd.
The duo also combined for a rendition of Blind Faith by Chase and Status, this really was the gig that just kept giving. Greene and co rounded up the night with the best of the bunch, Faithless hit Insomnia, before the crowd streamed out in jovial form to the Monaghan and Centre Park Roads counting down the days already to whenever Greene and the Orchestra next make on appearance on Leeside. One thing is for sure, they never ever fail to impress – top marks on what was a great night down at Live at the Marquee.
