18 incidents at Independent Park gigs

Public intoxiction and suspected cocaine use were amongthe incidents recorded by gardaí at last month's Irish Independent Park concerts.

A total of 18 incidents were logged by An Garda Síochána during last month’s gigs, which saw Leesiders flock in their thousands to watch headliners including George Ezra, The Coronas and Hozier.

However, it was Liam Gallagher’s headline show on Sunday 23 June which attracted the most trouble, with one-third of all incidents recorded by gardaí taking place at the former Oasis frontman’s gig.

They included five incidents of public intoxication and one incident of suspected cocaine use.

Overall, ten of the offences recorded across the shows were for public intoxication, with others including for offensive conduct and an alleged theft.

A number of juveniles were handed over to their parents during the George Ezra and Walking on Cars gigs on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June respectively, but gardaí did not record these as official incidents.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said the concerts were “very peaceful”, adding that there were no assaults reported in or around the events.
