Learn to care for the elderly
Helping older people can bring much joy no matter how it's done at work or at home.
Northridge House Education & Research Centre is based on the grounds of St Luke’s Home in Mahon, one of the oldest charities in Cork City, located near Blackrock Castle.
Since 2008, the centre has provided accredited training for those working with the older adults through courses validated by QQI (formerly FETAC), Irish Heart Foundation and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
The centre offers the popular QQI modules of Care of the Older Person, Care Skills, Communications, Care Support and Palliative Care Support.
Some of these courses take place in the evening to facilitate those at work. Northridge pride themselves on their student focused training courses which are all taught by accredited, experienced and qualified tutors.
A spokesperson said: “The centre also offers an increasing range of Level 6 management courses such as Supervisory Management, Training and Development, Team Leadership, Gerontology and HR Management. The feedback on our QQI Courses speaks of quality, value and student centred.”
On Tuesday 3 September it is offering a taster of its Meditation and Mindful Living Course from 7–8.30pm. The seven week course then begins on Thursday 12 September.
The centre offers a full range of training programmes for those working with the older adults in nursing homes and for those working as community based professional carers. Tutors can also provide courses offsite.
The centre was opened by President Michael D Higgins in 2012 and has extensive facilities including a 100 seat conference rooms and five fully equipped training rooms with catering available.
