Top of the line for Skibb
The red carpet was rolled out as Skibbereen welcomed the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States, Daniel Mulhall.
He was vising the West Cork town to officially open the new headquarters of Spearline. Over 200 guests were in attendance as the technology company announced ambitious growth plans to double its workforce, leading to significant job creation in the area.
Ambassador Mulhall said: “I am delighted to be involved in the opening of Spearline’s new offices. I applaud the company for this rapid growth and for its success in servicing clients all over the world from its base in West Cork. As Ambassador, I have always made it a priority to support Irish companies in their export effort and wish Spearline well for the next phase of its development.”
Spearline also has offices in Waterford, Romania and India. The platform enables enterprises and telecommunications service providers to test connectivity and quality on global telecoms networks and has global network coverage and operates a 24 hours per day, 365 days per year support service for its international customers. The newly renovated 173 year old building was originally opened as a national school during the Great Famine.
Deputy Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll said: “This building is steeped in history. That such a personal link has been retained between Spearline (the CEO and many team members were past pupils) and the town of Skibbereen is something very special.”
Announcing Spearline’s plans for future job creation, co-founder and CEO Kevin Buckley said: “This move allows us to stay true to our roots and create employment. By the end of 2020, we will have doubled our workforce with the creation of 75 additional jobs, half of which will be here in Skibbereen. As our global customer base increases so too will our team.”
