Daredevil Daniel set for stadium abseil

Many the mountain that has been climbed in Thomond Park but now it's time for one man to head in the opposite direction. Donoughmore native Daniel Buckley is set to abseil down the home of Munster Rugby to raise funds for ISPCC Childline.

The data analyst, who is heavily involved with Macra Na Feirme, is calling on other adrenaline junkies to sign up and play a starring role in a stadium performance to remember.

The ISPCC Childline Thomond Park Abseil Challenge will take place on 14 September when participants will be treated to panoramic views over the Treaty city before beginning their descent.

Speaking about the challenge, Daniel said: “I am extremely excited for the challenge as I like to classify myself as a mini adrenaline junkie. I’ve always wanted to do this sort of thing and this was the perfect opportunity to go for it. Being a big Munster fan also helped as I will be scaling their home stadium. ISPCC Childline is an absolutely marvelous charity. They help out so many young people in need 24 hours a day. They help the most vulnerable in our society on a daily basis.”

Childline is Ireland’s only 24 hour active listening service that supports and empowers children and young people and answers over 310,000 contacts every year by phone, online chat and text.

According to Daniel, those who are tempted by the prospect of conquering this abseil challenge should not put off signing up: “It's a chance to help a fantastic charity while at the home of Munster Rugby, it's an opportunity not to be missed!”

Participants in the Abseil Challenge are being asked to raise a minimum of €300 (including a €50 non-refundable deposit) for the service, in order to secure their place on the day. Those who take part in the challenge must be aged over 18 on the day.
