Seven years and counting for IndieCork

 

Get the popcorn ready for another jam packed film festival! The seventh IndieCork Festival has announced several new exciting additions to the programme.

A new Irish film ‘Dark Lies the Island’ written by Kevin Barry will be the festival's closing night film at the Gate Cinema on 13 October. The film has many famous names starring, including Pat Shortt, Tommy Tiernan, Moe Dunford, Charlie Murphy and Peter Coonan.

Although an established writer, this is Kevin Barry's first outing as a screenwriter. Festival co-director Mick Hannigan said: “We are delighted to secure such a wonderful closing film that represents some of the best directing and acting talent in the country.” On Kevin Barry Mr Hannigan added that “we can now enjoy his talent” on screen.

IndieCork has also announced many international films in its lineup for the upcoming festival.

Some of them have already premiered at Cannes, Toronto and Venice, including French film 'Sibyl' directed by Justine Triet which was the closing film to the Cannes Film Festival this year.

The festival has six Irish short film programmes in the competition, six programmes of international films and two programmes of Creative Cork. IndieCork is Ireland's largest short film festival, with many young and emerging filmamkers making their way to Cork to take part.

This year's festival will be held from 6-13 October.
