Renewed appeal for info on Macroom mugging
Gardaí in Macroom are urging people to come forward with information, no matter how insignificant, regarding a mugging in which two ladies were pushed to the ground.
Gardaí investigating the incident this morning renewed their appealed for information about the robbery, which happened on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking at Macroom Garda Station today, Superintendent Joseph Moore said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the castle grounds in Macroom, Macroom Golf Club or Sleeven Upper, and who may have seen the two men to get in touch. We are also appealing to any drivers who were in the area at the time and who have dash cam footage.
"This incident happened during the day in a very public area so we are asking people who may have witnessed anything, no matter how insignificant they think it is, to contact us.”
Shortly before 3pm, two ladies, in their mid 60s and early 90s, were out walking in the castle grounds of Macroom, when they were both knocked to the ground and had a handbag stolen by two men.
The men then left the scene, into Macroom Golf club and out onto the road at Sleeven Upper. The woman in her 90s was brought to CUH with minor injuries and has since been discharged.
The two suspects are described as both being tall, thin and in their late teens/early 20s.
The community of Macroom are said to be very upset about what happened to the two women.
No arrests have been made, gardaí also confirmed this morning, and the investigation is ongoing.
