Family of Timothy Hourihane devastated
The family of Timothy Hourihane have expressed their devastation at his brutal death last Sunday morning.
As funeral arrangements take place, the family have asked for privacy. They have also asked members of the public to assist the gardaí in any way possible to bring closure to the matter.
The garda investigation into the murder is ongoing, and any members of the public who may have information are asked to contact gardaí at Anglesea Street.
In a statement, Cork City Council said: "Cork City Council would like to extend its sympathy to the family and friends of the man who died in such tragic circumstances near the Mardyke at the weekend. The council is appealing to the public to contact the gardaí with any information, no matter how small, that they may have relating to what happened in and around the scene of the crime.
"The man had presented to homeless services on a number of occasions over several years and had been granted a permanent social housing tenancy with the necessary housing supports by agencies helping people to move on from homelessness. Cork Simon Outreach team had remained in contact with him over the past number of years."
Timothy Hourihane, aged 53, was discovered with severe injuries after emergency services were called to a tent fire on the Mardyke Walk on Sunday morning. He was brought to Cork University Hospital (CUH) and later pronounced dead.
A post mortem was carried out on Sunday afternoon. Following the post mortem, a murder investigation was launched by gardaí.
