Pony ‘dumped like rubbish’

A starved, battered and abused pony had to be put down this week because the pain and distress she was in.

Volunteers, who have been hailed as amazing and brave, from My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR) in Cork were called to help a pony found in a bad condition in Fairhill on Sunday evening.

Speaking with the Cork Independent, a MLHR spokeswoman described it as “awful” for the Cork team to witness adding that those who came to try to save the pony were “amazing and brave people”.

A post on the MLHR Facebook page said: “There just are no words to describe the condition of this poor creature. No words that could convey what she must have suffered. No words for the heartbreak volunteers felt watching her struggle to get up.”

MLHR said that the pony was two years old and found starving and battered. She was “abused, used and dumped like rubbish,” the Facebook post added.

A vet was also present and a decision was made to put her down.

Gardaí from Gurranabraher Garda Station confirmed to the Cork Independent that they are investigating how she ended up in the state she did. Anyone with information can contact them on 021-4946200.
