Several organisations have expressed an interest in a Carrigaline's new primary school.

Interest mounts in new Carrigaline school

Four organisations are looking to become the patrons of a new 16 room classroom school in Carrigaline.

An Foras Pátrúnachta, Cork Education and Training Board, Educate Together and Scoil Sinéad Ltd, all of which are multi-denominational, have all put in a bid for patronage of the primary school.

Cork Education and Training Board (Cork ETB) is the latest group to share why it thinks it should be given control of the school.

A Cork ETB spokesperson said in a statement: “Having Cork ETB as patron is significant for the proposed school, as it will benefit greatly from a broad range of supports and services that are not available to other schools. “Cork ETB can provide governance, educational, administrative, financial, human resources and information technology support to schools. This has a direct impact on the children and families, as it allows on-site school leadership to focus on their primary task of leading teaching and learning.”

It comes after Educate Together last week explained why it has thrown its hat in the ring for patronage of the school in a media statement.

Niall Wall, Regional Development Officer at Educate Together, said in the statement: “We're hoping that a new Educate Together national school for Carrigaline will alleviate some of the pressure felt by Carrigaline ETNS as places there are in extremely high demand. Undoubtedly the fantastic reputation of Educate Together in town will be a boon to the campaign and the enthusiasm of our campaigners is palpable.”
