‘Wonderful’ Maeve to be laid to rest
A woman who was killed by a truck in the city on Monday has been described as a ‘wonderful person who will be sadly missed’.
Maeve Murphy of Cathedral Road in Cork city was walking along Smith Street when the incident occurred at approximately 3.50pm on Monday afternoon.
Ms Murphy, who was in her 50s, was rushed to CUH by ambulance where she was later pronounced dead. A technical examination of the scene has been carried out.
Ms Murphy had worked in The Mall newsagents on the South Mall for the past nine years.
Arrangements for Ms Murphy’s removal have been made for tomorrow, Friday evening, at 6.30pm from O’Connor Bros. Funeral Home, North Gate Bridge to the North Cathedral.
A requiem mass will be held on Saturday 15 February at 11am followed by burial at St Oliver’s Cemetery on the Model Farm Road.
Ms Murphy leaves behind sisters Dee and Nola, brothers Acquin and Ferg, sisters-in-law Breda and Linda, brothers-in-law Mick and Jackie, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users who may have dash cam footage of the area from the time of the collision, to contact gardaí at Anglesea Street on 021-4522000, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111.
