Images flood in
New images showing what the controversial Cork city flood relief scheme would look like when completed have been released this week.
Many people, including the Save Cork City group, are against the Office of Public Work’s (OPW) Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme based on plans to raise the quay walls.
However in a bid to tackle what an OPW spokesperson said was incorrect claims, more images emerged on Tuesday showing what places like Anderson’s Quay, Mardyke Walk and the city centre would look like once the scheme is completed.
The spokesperson said: “As with previous images published by the scheme, these latest visuals show again that the claims that the scheme is comprised of high walls that hide the River Lee from public view is simply incorrect. In addition to protecting the locations in these new images from flooding, access to the riverside is more open and safer,” they added.
