Deputy Lord Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Liam O'Connor, visiting pop-up exhibition space The Gallery in Carrigaline.

Pop in for pop-up art

A vacant unit in Carrigaline has been totally transformed into a bright and beautiful pop-up exhibition space, now for all to enjoy.

Aptly named The Gallery, the art space is curated by the newly-formed Owenabue Arts Collective, an informal Cork-based organisation promoting artists of all disciplines.

Speaking at the launch, founding member of the Owenabue Arts Collective Mary Murphy expressed her gratitude and her excitement for the weeks and months ahead.

“We would like to thank Cork County Council for its support in securing this premises. We particularly welcome the funding support received through the Creative Ireland ‘Pop-Up’ Scheme,” said Ms Murphy.

She added: “We look forward to the future as we seek to establish the collective, welcoming more artists on board, and looking to establish ourselves in Carrigaline in the longer term.” Also speaking at the launch was Deputy Lord Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Liam O’Connor, who gave special thanks to the building’s owner Paul Horan for his “generosity and support”. “From first approaching the building owner earlier this summer, they have been nothing but accommodating and welcoming. We are delighted that this exhibition has highlighted the presence of this impressive unit and has helped in reducing the number of vacant premises in the town,” said Cllr O’Connor.

Cork County Council Arts Officer Ian McDonagh added: “Although this space is temporary, I have no doubt that this collective will prove a permanent feature on the arts scene in the Carrigaline area.”

The Gallery is located on the Carrigaline main street and opens from 12-6pm Thursday to Sunday.
