€7m upgrade for Lidl Kanturk

More than ten new jobs have been created in Kanturk after Lidl has built a brand new store in the town. The new store on Banteer Road is replacing the existing store with a modern new build.

Lidl has traded in Kanturk since 2008, and Kanturk and Cork hurler Anthony Nash was on hand to officially open the store.

A feature of the modern new build is an expanded bakery section, welcoming shoppers daily with the smell of freshly baked breads and pastries. A Lidl to Go coffee machine is also available giving customers the option of a hot beverage for €1.

The new building is bright and airy with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers, compared to the previous store. 143 convenient car park spaces are available, including reserved spaces for families and disabled shoppers.

The new store is built with sustainability in mind and incorporates a range of environmentally friendly features including a solar panel system and two electric vehicle charger spaces, enabling customers to charge their electric vehicles free of charge whilst they shop.

Andrius Vasiliauskas, Lidl Kanturk Store Manager, said: “We’ve been a steady presence Kanturk since we first opened back in 2008. On behalf of the team I want to thank our loyal customers for their patience during the construction works – I know they will agree that it was worth it! We are thrilled to be able to give our loyal customers in Kanturk this amazing new shopping experience and look forward to even more success in the coming years.”

As part of its A Better Tomorrow corporate social responsibility programme and to mark the opening, Lidl Kanturk welcomed representatives from the Cope Foundation to accept a donation of €500 to support the ongoing work they do supporting people with an intellectual disability and/or autism. Lidl also welcomed representatives from Mercy House Kanturk to accept a donation of €500 to support the ongoing work they do for the elderly of Kanturk.
